About Broward Health Medical Center
Broward Health Medical Center is a major public teaching hospital and part of the Broward Health system in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The hospital offers many services, including addiction and mental health treatment for clients with substance use disorders and dual diagnoses. Broward offers integrated medication assisted treatment (iMATR) services for detox and maintenance via the Bridge Program.
Clients can pay for treatment using most private and public insurance, including Medicare and Medicaid. They also have an income based sliding fee scale. The hospital is in the downtown area close to parks, beaches, shops, and eateries.
Helping At-Risk Individuals
Broward offers a SOAR (SSI/SSDI Outreach, Access, and Recovery) assistance program. I like that the program helps clients at risk of homelessness and targets those dealing with mental health and co-occurring substance use issues. Trained caseworkers help clients to submit their applications, and the program has a 65% initial approval rate.
Secure Inpatient Behavioral Health Unit
The medical center has a secure inpatient unit for adults with behavioral health disorders. I noticed that the programs are holistic and touch on the social, environmental, psychological, and biological elements of addiction and mental health disorders. Support services are integrated and help people find recovery housing and to find steady work. Case managers can also enroll clients in SNAP to assure access to food and other basic needs.
