About Virginia Treatment Center for Children
Virginia Treatment Center for Children (VTCC) is a Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU program providing specialized inpatient and outpatient mental health care for children and adolescents in Richmond, Virginia. VTCC treats depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and other behavioral health conditions through evidence-based approaches including CBT, DBT, individual therapy, and multifamily group therapy.
VTCC accepts Medicaid, Medicare, private insurance, and self-pay options. If your child or teen needs treatment for addiction or substance use disorder the center can refer you to a local treatment center.
Pediatric Inpatient Mental Health Stabilization
VTCC's inpatient mental health program provides crisis stabilization for children as young as three with evaluations, individual and group psychotherapy, and behavioral and medication interventions. The average inpatient stay is five to seven days with coordinated discharge planning to ensure safe transitions back to home and community.
Inpatient treatment takes place in private patient rooms with individual bathrooms and space for a family member to stay overnight. Sessions incorporate psychiatry, psychology, nursing, social work, and specialized supports like occupational therapy, recreational therapy, art and music therapy, and an on-site K-12 school program.
Partial Hospitalization and Family-Centered Care
VTCC's Partial Hospitalization Program offers a 10 day weekday track for children ages six to 17 experiencing mood or anxiety symptoms who do not require inpatient care. The program combines multifamily group therapy, individual sessions, DBT, and CBT.
