About Sergeant I. “Boots” Thomas VA Clinic
The Sergeant I. “Boots” Thomas VA Clinic of Tallahassee, Florida, exists to meet the complex medical needs of American Veterans. This includes substance use disorder care (including medication assisted treatment) and co-occurring disorder treatment. One good thing about this clinic is that you can be seen without an appointment for your initial intake and assessment.
This clinic, in particular, was built to serve surrounding rural areas, greatly expanding access to healthcare for those who would otherwise need to travel great distances for specialty services. What’s more, it can connect you with other VA clinics for additional services to give greater access to medical services as needed.
Immediate Homeless Support
Any veteran who is homeless or facing homelessness can find much needed support at this clinic. Their programs will help you meet immediate needs, including food, shelter, and medical support. They’ll also help you find resources in the area to help you get back on your feet and find stability.
Homeless services also include addiction treatment.
Patient Advocacy
The VA recognizes that navigating the healthcare system—even their own—can be incredibly difficult at times. To ensure that you get the care you need, they’ll pair you with a patient advocate. They're similar to a case worker, but rather than help you meet your daily needs, they work exclusively within the clinic to make sure you’re heard.
Advocates act as your voice during care. They make sure that any concerns you have are heard and understood. They speak directly to your provider and anyone else working in the clinic who has a role in your care.
Nutritional Support
Eating right can play a major role in your mental health. The VA’s nutritional support program is separate from their drug or mental health treatment but can naturally complement those things, too. Nutritional specialists will work alongside your addiction care team to promote healthy eating that supports your whole health.
