About US Veterans Center Lubbock
Located in Lubbock, Texas, the US Veterans Center offers specialized substance use treatment and mental health support designed exclusively for Veterans. Operating under the Amarillo VA Healthcare System, the facility provides outpatient counseling, trauma informed care, and integrated services for co occurring disorders.
Specialized for Veterans by Veterans
This Veterans Center's mission focuses on delivering confidential, community based readjustment counseling, often facilitated by fellow combat Veterans. All of their counseling is designed to address the specific needs of Veterans, addressing challenges like trauma and PTSD, transitioning to civilian life, military sexual trauma, and reconnecting with loved ones.
They have dedicated support for Veterans here including the National Guard and Reserves, as well as specific care for seniors and women. They have unique support circles such as Women’s Courage, Minorities in Combat, and various peer support formats. I appreciate that many of the counselors are combat veterans themselves so they understand what you're going through.
Confidentiality Separate from the VA
The Vet Center's records are non-medical and private, kept separate from general VA health files to ensure confidentiality. Counseling is provided at no cost to eligible Veterans, regardless of discharge status or VA health care enrollment.
Beginning treatment typically involves contacting the center to verify service eligibility and schedule an initial assessment. The multidisciplinary team helps match Veterans to the right level of mental health or substance use support, including referrals to inpatient programs if necessary. Staff members are available to explain benefits and guide individuals through the intake process in a non-medical environment.
