UC Health Addiction Sciences is a multidisciplinary outpatient substance use disorder treatment program operating within UC Health Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience in Cincinnati. The program serves adults 18 years and older with evidence based therapies, including cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, the Matrix Model and contingency management.
These are useful in the treatment for opioid, alcohol, tobacco and other substance use disorders. Affiliated with the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, the team of addiction researchers, clinicians and educators delivers treatment grounded in over 10 years of collaboration and national expertise in defining best practices in addiction medicine.
Medication Assisted Treatment for Opioid Use Disorder
UC Health Addiction Sciences operates an Opioid Treatment Program offering methadone based treatment six days a week, combining medication assisted therapy with behavioral counseling. The program made history as the first Opiate Treatment Program certified in Ohio in over 24 years when it opened in 2006.
The team also provides office based buprenorphine treatment and other FDA cleared medications for opioid, alcohol and tobacco dependence. Treatment integrates medical management with evidence based counseling to address physical dependence and underlying psychological factors. Sessions focus on stabilization, relapse prevention and long term recovery through personalized care plans that combine medication optimization with skill building strategies.
Research Driven Outpatient Care
As part of the National Institute on Drug Abuse Clinical Trials Network since 1997, UC Health Addiction Sciences offers patients the opportunity to participate in pioneering research on treatments for nicotine, opioid and cocaine use disorders. This academic medical center setting provides access to cutting edge interventions and integrated care for co-occurring mental health conditions, trauma and special populations, including pregnant and postpartum women.
Getting Started With Treatment
UC Health Addiction Sciences serves the Greater Cincinnati region with in person care at their Avondale location and telehealth options for qualifying patients. An open access assessment model allows most outpatients to be seen same day Monday through Thursday mornings.
The program accepts Medicare, Medicaid and most private insurance plans along with cash or self payment options.
