About Sojourner House MOMS
At Sojourner House MOMS (Motivation Opportunities Mentoring Spirituality) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, everything is about helping mothers and their families who struggle with substance use disorders. They offer faith based residential addiction treatment and transitional housing in Pittsburgh’s East Liberty neighborhood.
Addiction Treatment for Women in the Pittsburgh Area
The first thing I noticed about this treatment program is that it’s the only one in Western Pennsylvania to provide each client with their own apartment for the duration of treatment. You’ll benefit from the chance to live independently while receiving the help you need in a supportive environment.
You can participate in this program as long as you're 18 and older and either pregnant or have children aged 12 and under. You can bring up to three children, and your entire family can stay for up to six months.
Supportive Housing for Families in Recovery
This program has been a critical resource for families since 2004. It supports women in recovery from addiction while also helping families who are experiencing homelessness.
A referral from Allegheny County will determine your eligibility for the housing program. I appreciate that they accept both single and dual income families, but at least one family member must have a qualifying disability.
Dedicated Services for Children
Something else that stands out to me is the children’s program. Your kids will have access to educational and developmental support, along with family counseling. Past residents have “expressed gratitude for having a space where both mother and children can heal and grow together.”
There’s an indoor and outdoor play area for children on site. You’ll also have plenty of outdoor spaces, like Garland Park, where you can play basketball and enjoy the splash pad with your little ones. The Carnegie Library East Liberty branch is also nearby.
The mission of Sojourner House MOMS is to help mothers develop new skills and build better relationships with their kids while working on long term recovery. After you finish residential treatment, case managers can provide referrals to outpatient treatment and mental healthcare.
