About Northern Valley Indian Health Chico Clinic
Northern Valley Indian Health in Chico, California, is a non profit Tribal organization that offers dental, medical, behavioral health and community outreach. Services are provided with cultural awareness tailored to you as a unique individual.
The clinic accepts Medicare, Medicaid and most other insurance plans. They offer interpreter services through CYRACOM. Anyone is welcome as a new patient regardless of race or color, but Native American patients are given priority admission.
The clinic incorporates into its treatment the generational feelings of distrust because of historical trauma, ethnocide and genocide. The depression and anxiety passed to future generations can sometimes lead to substance use and addiction.
Effective Counseling for Substance Use Disorder
The substance use program consists of general outpatient programs and aftercare programs. The outpatient program offers one hour of individual counseling per week for adults and one hour group or individual counseling for youth. You’ll learn to identify your triggers and use healthy coping mechanisms to avoid relapse.
You can schedule more than one session per week if you need extra services. Sessions can be attended virtually via telehealth. Therapies used include the Red Road to Wellbriety, 12 step methods, and substance use disorder education. You will have a cultural mentor who will help you through recovery.
Your family is welcome to participate in your treatment with you. They will be educated on addiction and how to support you through your recovery.
Referrals for Intensive Services
If you need more intensive services, the clinic can refer you to a local residential substance use treatment facility or an outpatient facility that offers more intensive services. The clinic is open Monday through Friday. One reviewer praised this location for always being helpful and considerate of patient’s needs.
