About Richmond VA Outpatient Clinic
The Richmond VA Medical Center serves veterans from its Richmond, Virginia campus. They have an incredible number of departments and specialties, including substance abuse treatment. As a VA program, all of its services are designed to address the complex needs of the veteran community.
They also boast specialty services for underserved populations within the greater veteran community. These include homeless individuals, LGBQ+ individuals and women. Telehealth is available for some services and a patient advocate is available to help you navigate your care.
While VA benefits can cover the cost of treatment, they aren’t necessary to receive care. Other forms of insurance are accepted, too.
Care for the Caregivers
While VA programs are typically reserved for veterans, this location can provide support for anyone acting as a caregiver to one. This service will show them how to better take care of their needs to support their addiction and medical care, but it also gives them the tools they need to take care of their health, too.
What I love about this program is its inclusion of respite care. It’s easy for caregivers to throw themselves into their work and risk burnout, but with this option, they can take a break to recharge and tend to themselves without risking gaps in their care.
Emergency Care
Many VA clinics (including this one) operate their own emergency rooms to deal with serious illness or injury promptly. If you’re already a client of their substance abuse treatment program, you can take advantage of this service—even if your medical emergency isn’t related to addiction. It’s a simple way to expand your support options.
Hospital Access
In the case you experience an emergency the VA isn’t equipped for, don’t worry: Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Hospital is close by. Between these two facilities, you’ll be in safe hands and have plenty of options to tackle your health concerns, be addiction-related or other health issues.
