About Lummi Counseling Services
Lummi Counseling Services is a tribal government healthcare organization operated by the Lummi Indian Business Council, providing outpatient addiction treatment for Native American families in Bellingham, Washington.
The program offers counseling and intensive outpatient programming, outpatient detoxification and medication assisted treatment through its SAMHSA certified opioid treatment program. Lummi Counseling Services centers cultural healing practices within evidence based care, creating a treatment environment that addresses the unique needs of Indigenous communities.
Culturally Integrated Addiction Treatment
Lummi Counseling Services integrates Native American cultural practices with evidence based therapies to treat substance use disorders across all age groups. Staff certified by the Washington State Department of Health deliver cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing and trauma related counseling, Matrix Model and twelve step facilitation within a culturally informed framework.
Treatment includes access to a dedicated cultural arts therapy room where traditional healing practices complement clinical interventions. Sessions address both immediate substance use concerns and generational trauma specific to Indigenous communities, with specialized programming for pregnant and postpartum women through the New Beginnings program, DUI offenders, criminal justice clients and domestic violence survivors.
Medication Assisted Treatment
The Healing Spirit Clinic operates as a DEA accredited opioid treatment program providing methadone, buprenorphine and naltrexone within a comprehensive recovery framework.
Addiction medicine practitioners and physician assistants deliver MAT alongside counseling, relapse prevention and ongoing clinical monitoring to support long term recovery from opioid and alcohol use disorders.
Getting Started with Care
Lummi Counseling Services is located on the Lummi Reservation in Bellingham, serving Whatcom County with in person and telehealth options available Monday through Friday. The program is staffed by certified substance use disorder professionals trained to serve Native American communities.
Payment is accepted through IHS and Tribal funds and Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance, federal funding and military insurance, with sliding scale and payment assistance available.
