About Harbor UCLA Medical Center
Harbor UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, California, strives to be diverse, compassionate, accountable and innovative. The hospital offers community psychiatry services for those with low incomes regardless of their ability to pay.
Primary Care Services
If you become a patient of the hospital through their primary care services a health care team will be assigned to you. This includes a doctor, a nurse, a health educator, a social worker and a mental health and substance use disorder counselor.
Your health care team will work together to provide integrated physical and mental care. Since our physical health can affect our mental health and vice versa, integrated care can provide the best treatment for both.
You are encouraged to talk honestly to your provider about substances you are using. Your provider can make the determination about treatment that you need.
Crisis and Inpatient Treatment
The hospital has two inpatient psychiatric units, an adult psychiatric emergency room, an adolescent psychiatric emergency room and consultation services. Patients are given an emergency assessment, stabilized and referred to the next level of substance use treatment.
Outpatient Substance Use Treatment
The outpatient clinic offers psychiatry services for children, youth and adults. The clinic treats substance users who have a co-occurring mental health disorder. They also treat substance users who have a co-occurring medical comorbidity such as HIV or cancer.
A wellness center provides fitness activities, recreational activities and peer support groups. Therapies used in treatment include psychopharmacology, psychodynamic psychotherapy, supportive psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavior therapy.
Perinatal Substance Use Program
The Promise program provides treatment for perinatal patients who have substance use or mental health symptoms. Promise stands for Perinatal Resource to Optimize Mental Health Interventions and Substance Use Treatment Excellence. The Promise program involves a provider to provider consultation to determine a diagnosis and appropriate medications.
