About Phoenix House
Across the road from Rainey Park in New York City, New York, you’ll find Phoenix House’s Long Island City headquarters. It’s formerly known as Detox House Queens. From this location, Phoenix House offers two programs, residential rehabilitation services and outpatient treatment, with the vision of helping heal individuals, families, and communities from substance use as well as other mental health and social difficulties. It dates back to 1967.
Clinical and Holistic Approaches
Individual counseling and therapy are at the heart of their substance and alcohol counseling services. In these sessions, they’ll make time for you and your primary counselor to talk about your personal circumstances and particular struggles. By understanding that no two people are affected by addiction in the same way, they work with you to set and achieve personal recovery goals on a week to week basis. They can also offer access to medication assisted treatment to those who would benefit from that type of service.
Group sessions are another major part of their recovery strategy. They provide psychoeducational material, counseling opportunities, peer support, and skill building sessions in group settings. Past patients have described this as a “great atmosphere to seek recovery.”
Phoenix House also plans many outdoor activities to help you take care of your physical health. They’re in a great location to do so, too, since their office is near Roosevelt Island with its many fields, parks, and gardens.
Taking Care of the Details
Addiction can oftentimes affect many smaller areas of a person’s life in subtle ways, and Phoenix House has access to resources to help in many of these types of cases. They can help you with education and career development planning, trauma counseling, anger management, and relapse prevention planning. They also offer telehealth services for those who might need a familiar support remotely during their wanderings.
