About Boston Rescue Mission
Boston Rescue Mission (BRM) is a nonprofit organization and one of the oldest homeless shelters in the United States with a history of helping those without homes for over a century.
Located in downtown Boston, Massachusetts, near Beacon Hill, this remarkable shelter offers food, a safe place to sleep, and opportunities to help transform the lives of their patrons. They have several programs and services that empower struggling individuals and help them to build toward self sufficiency.
Addressing Substance Use to End Homelessness
As a part of their mission to address Boston’s homelessness, they offer “dry beds,” which are spots in a sober living shelter that help individuals experiencing homelessness get and stay sober in a safe environment. Their staff also affirms each individual’s self worth and works to equip them with the tools and knowledge needed to start them on a path out of substance use and homelessness.
Helping People Find Long Term Solutions
In addition to providing a short term living solution, they also offer personal, confidential meetings with case managers. Each case manager works with their clients to set longer term goals for their lives and then helps them find and access the resources needed to achieve those goals.
This can include finding vocational training programs, family reunification and therapy services, and inpatient treatment for substance related problems.
