About San Fernando Valley Community Mental Health Center
The San Fernando Valley Community Mental Health Center is a private nonprofit entity in Van Nuys, California. Since 1981, they’ve provided specialized programs for adults, youth and families battling addiction, severe and persistent mental health conditions, homelessness and other life challenges.
As one of Los Angeles County’s largest behavioral health providers of its kind, you can access ongoing support in their outpatient programs. Counseling, resource referrals and vocational services are all available. Many of their programs accept MediCal.
Juvenile Justice Programs
I like their programs for youth aged 12 to 17 involved in the juvenile justice system. They provide an intensive, family focused model to address problem behaviors, including substance abuse.
The center collaborates with your child, your family, the community, schools and peers. Individual and family therapy, as well as case management, are available.
Diversion Program
Their diversion program also stood out to me. Adults with select misdemeanor and felony crimes experiencing chronic homelessness or battling serious mental illnesses can access this program as an alternative to incarceration. Along with substance use treatment, they provide assessments, healthy living support, vocational and housing support and medication evaluations.
Treatment for Currently Incarcerated Individuals
The center works directly with the Los Angeles County Drug Court program to offer ongoing support to help you reach recovery while incarcerated. You can access addiction and mental health assessments, individual and group counseling and crisis intervention.
