About Life Challenge of Amarillo
On the aptly named Hope Road west of Amarillo, Texas, you can find Life Challenge’s Village of Hope. Here, they offer a unique program to men over the age of 18 who are looking to break free from drug and alcohol addictions. This is a long-term residential program with the goal of helping men not only heal, but grow across all areas of their lives so that they can stand strong on the other side of the program.
Healing in Community
The Village of Hope houses a close-knit group of Life Challenge staff and men in recovery. They allow you to participate in group therapy and activities within the context of relationships that grow deeper over time. They also provide you with a leader with whom you do individual counseling and discipleship.
The program is nonmedical in nature, which means they don’t have the capacity to help anyone on psychiatric medication. They also require applicants to have gone through detox and to maintain abstinence at all times. However, your counselor, leader, or another staff member is always present and ready to pray with you and offer guidance in times of struggle, so you never feel isolated or alone on your journey.
There’s also Revivify Coffee, which is their own roast and coffeeshop onsite. It’s been in operation since 2018, and qualified residents can get job skills, people skills, and experience in operating a business, not to mention building a network of peers. A flag service is also available, in which they will plant and raise flags in your neighborhood on select holidays.
A Structured and Safe Environment
They have a strict set of rules that provide structure and safety within their program. Some of these rules (like a strict prohibition on smoking, drinking, and substance use) keep the environment safe for all the men in recovery.
Other rules, like their dress code, work ethic requirements, and discipline standards, call you to a higher standard of living and build resilience, skill, and focus as you engage in the program. Many graduates note that these disciplines, coupled with the staff’s kindness, helped them turn their lives around completely.
