About Advanced Human Services Chemical Dependency Outpatient Program
Advanced Human Services in Queens, New York, provide substance use, mental health, and co-occurring disorder treatment. It’s by the Willow Lake Preserve Trail. They offer services in Russian, Farsi, Hebrew, Polish, English, and Ukrainian languages. Services are sometimes offered virtually by telehealth or as in home visits.
Outpatient Detox & Treatment
The center offers outpatient detoxification services for those who have a supportive home environment and are diagnosed with mild to moderate substance use disorder. If you need inpatient detox the center will refer you to a local treatment center.
Detox services include medical monitoring, medication assisted treatment, and behavioral and emotional support. You will visit the clinic several times per week, possibly daily for monitoring and counseling.
The center uses cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and motivational interviewing (MI) as tools during treatment. Outpatient treatment includes substance use counseling, addiction and recovery groups, and education on how to prevent relapses.
Culturally Sensitive Services
Services are culturally aware and provide specialized services for Bukharian Jews and immigrants from the former Soviet Union who may be addicted to substances not commonly seen in the United States. One such substance is Valocordin.
Immigrant services address the stress, trauma, and cultural dislocation that immigrants suffer from, commonly leading to substance use. Many face acculturative stress, isolation due to the language barrier, economic hardship, and may have been through war and political trauma.
A Special Track for Seniors
Substance use treatment for the elderly is available. Seniors may start abusing substances because of chronic pain, medical issues, cognitive decline, polypharmacy, isolation, and the loss of loved ones.
We’re sometimes hesitant to do things that’ll be looked upon negatively by our community and the elderly are even more sensitive to this. For this reason, they may try to hide their use and not seek help.
