About ARAD Amarillo Recovery from Alcohol & Drugs
ARAD (The Amarillo Recovery from Alcohol and Drugs Center) in Amarillo, Texas, joined the Cenikor addiction and behavioral health treatment family in 2019 and has helped more than thousands of individuals improve their mental health and overcome substance use.
The shelter and residential treatment program known as ARAD closed its doors in June of 2025, but that doesn’t mean they stopped offering support in the Amarillo area. While the South Western Street location is no longer a shelter they do have an outpatient and day treatment location on South Rusk Street.
Supportive Outpatient Care
Medication-assisted treatment is a large part of the care services offered by Cenikor now. While they do have inpatient treatment and medical detox in several other areas throughout Texas, their treatment focus in Amarillo has turned to more outpatient services such as partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient programs and outpatient medication assisted treatment options. This means you can get support for six hours a day Monday to Friday.
Adolescent and Adult Care
When ARAD was operational they provided residential and outpatient programs for adults aged 18 and over. Cenikor offers these services throughout Texas as well as treatment for adolescents. In Amarillo, adolescent treatment options include the Youth Recovery Community program which offers support to youth ages 13 to 21 by offering support and recreational activities without the stress of alcohol, substances, or peer pressure.
Treatment options were available for teens and adults through in person or virtual appointments and groups. An individual treatment care plan was developed with the help of certified mental health and addiction professionals under the direction of a physician or psychiatrist.
Activities for All Ages
There’s lots to explore in Amarillo when you’re not in treatment programming. If you’re looking for some beautiful nature to enjoy or photograph you may want to check out the Amarillo Botanical Gardens. If animals are more your thing then the Amarillo Zoo is nearby. There are a few interesting museums and art installations in the area for those who prefer cultural activities and some self-guided scavenger hunts you can sign up for if you are looking for adventure and fun with the family.
