About Amarillo Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse ACADA – Closed
The Amarillo Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse (ACADA) in Texas offered substance use education prevention, intervention, and treatment. They were a nonprofit that was funded by the Texas state government. This office has since closed.
Women’s Outpatient Treatment Program
When they were open, a specialized women’s outpatient treatment program met two days per week on Wednesday and Thursday from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. Women who were eligible for the program had children in foster care, were under the age of 18 with children, or women involved with the Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services.
Women had to be able to make payment for the program. They were educated about medical aspects of alcohol and drug abuse, spiritual and cognitive aspects of recovery, parenting and life skills, and other topics.
General Outpatient Treatment
Another outpatient treatment program was for men or women who were diagnosed with substance use disorder. Groups met twice each week. Clients met on Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
Clients had to be able to pay to attend the program. They were educated on concepts and processes of addiction, coping tools, role of the brain in addiction, recovery, and relapse.
Intensive Outpatient Program
Another treatment program was for those who have a substance use disorder but required a more intensive, restrictive, or structured environment. Clients met every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8:30 am to 11:00 am.
Clients were required to pay for the program. Substance users were educated about disease concepts and the process of addiction, recovery, relapse, HIV/AIDs, and coping tools.
A different substance use treatment center, Cenikor, took over the ACADA facility in 2022 when the ACADA organization closed. ACADA operated from 1963 to 2022.
