Parents in and around Dallas have two new options for teens who need real clinical support but not residential care. A Carrollton treatment center announced that it has expanded its daytime and after-school programs for adolescents in Texas.
The expansion covers the center’s partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs. Both can treat drug addiction or with mental health conditions.
Two Schedules, One Goal
Partial hospitalization is the heaviest outpatient option. A teen attends treatment weekdays for several hours and goes home at night. Intensive outpatient is only three days a week and keeps structure during school hours.
That school compatibility encourages families to sign up. Residential treatment removes a teen from class entirely; PHP and IOP let treatment and school coexist so kids can stay in school.
Counseling includes behavior therapy, recreational therapy and faith-based tracks. Treatment plans are built for co-occurring conditions as well as standalone addiction or mental health needs. This is important because teen substance use so often rides alongside anxiety, depression or trauma.
Teens aren’t Smaller Adults
“Teens are not smaller adults,” a spokesperson noted in the announcement. The developmental difference is the reason age-specific programs exist. Adolescent brains respond differently to substances and therapy, so programs developed for adults might not be as effective.
Here’s some federal survey data. Up to 1.78 million adolescents ages 12 to 17 had an illicit drug use disorder and 757k met criteria for alcohol use disorder.
Spotting Trouble Early
Behavior changes worth a professional evaluation tend to arrive together. Look for slipping grades, missing money or valuables, disrupted sleep or appetite and withdrawal from family life.
Several signs that occur together can justify a call to a provider sooner rather than later. Early intervention or treatment consistently predicts better long-term outcomes.
