Addiction treatment in New Jersey received a funding boost to expand peer recovery support. HOPE Sheds Light is a Toms River nonprofit and got $1m+ that’ll deliver roughly $335,000 per year for three years to grow recovery services in Ocean and Monmouth counties.
The SAMHSA Grant
The award comes from the Building Communities of Recovery program at the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. They fund Recovery Community Organizations nationwide. The money will expand HOPE Sheds Light’s peer recovery, family programs and outreach. It’ll also connect existing local resources like hospitals so people can find help at any stage of recovery.
The grant was awarded by the Department of Health and Human Services. The goal is to strengthen substance use prevention, mental health services and crisis support across the country.
“This is a milestone for HOPE Sheds Light and a tremendous recognition of the recovery community that has grown around our organization,” announced CEO Pamela Capaci in a statement.
Enter HOPE Sheds Light
Ron Rosetto, Stephen Willis and Arvo Prima founded the nonprofit after addiction touched their own families. The group honors their sons, Marc Rosetto, Mark Willis and Paavo Prima, by supporting other families facing addiction.
Co-founder Stephen Willis recalled how he and many others have looked and continue to search for answers.
“We understood what it was like for a family to be searching for answers, support, and hope. This grant allows us to carry that purpose forward on a much greater scale.”
What began as families gathering to share stories now serves two counties with structured programs.
Peer Recovery
A Recovery Community Organization is a nonprofit led by people in recovery that provides non-clinical support. A person who has lived through addiction walks alongside those just starting. Peers assist with finding treatment and rebuilding daily life after formal treatment ends.
Groups like HOPE offer family members education about addiction and connection to other families in similar situations. Researchers who study signs of addiction agree that peer programs like this one provide early connection and sustained support.
