Overview

Jacksonville Metro Treatment Center provides Jacksonville and the surrounding areas—including Oceanway, Arlington, San Marco, Southside, Baymeadows, Neptune Beach, Atlantic Beach, Jacksonville Beach, and Ponte Vedra Beach—with quality opiate addiction rehabilitation services in an outpatient program. Our accomplished team of addiction specialists are doctor-led, and work closely with each of our patients to formulate a personalized plan tailored to their unique needs. Because Jacksonville Metro Treatment Center provides outpatient services, our patients are able to continue attending to their daily responsibilities uninterrupted while also receiving treatment. We offer an affordable payment plan that covers all treatment services with one low fee. Program services include medical exams, medically supervised withdrawal, Medication-Assisted Treatment with methadone or buprenorphine to block withdrawal symptoms and cravings, confidentiality, individual, group, and family counseling; referrals, and take-home benefits after patients meet key criteria, all provided within a confidential and convenient outpatient program. Research shows that there are many factors that can influence a patient’s recovery progress. Both patients and their families should be aware that early treatment success depends upon the combined effect of buprenorphine or methadone maintenance treatment and counseling services to address underlying behavioral, psychological, and social factors of addiction. This is why participating in a comprehensive treatment program using Medication-Assisted Treatment produces the greatest results. Patients and their families should also understand that longer treatment duration has a large impact upon recovery success. Studies show that the greatest gains of treatment are attained in the first year of medical maintenance, while some patients will need two or three years of maintenance treatment. Some patients may require even long times if they were not receiving sufficient counseling services during the initial years of their methadone treatment.

Amenities

Jacksonville Metro Treatment Center employs Medication-Assisted Treatment because it is the most researched and evidence based treatment approach in the field of addiction recovery. The most commonly utilized medications for Medication-Assisted Treatment are methadone and buprenorphine medications like Suboxone. We provide Medication-Assisted Treatment in a modern, renovated facility that has a fingerprint check in kiosk, and a friendly, non-judgmental staff. Rather than require patients to wait in line for their methadone dispensing, patients sit in comfortable chairs until their number comes up on a screen. Prospective patients are likely to benefit from Medication-Assisted Treatment at Jacksonville Metro Treatment Center if they have been addicted to heroin or prescription painkillers for at least one year, and are 18 years old or older. Other factors that indicate patients could benefit from MAT at our facility are:
  • If their abuse of opiate drugs have resulted in negative consequences that have impacted the family, work, and social aspects of their lives
  • If they have tried and failed to quit using drugs in the past
  • If they have used drugs intravenously, thereby putting themselves at risk of contracting Hepatitis, HIV, and other blood-borne pathogens
  • If they combine one or more substances, which is even more risky
  • If they have engaged in criminal activity to support their drug use
Some people worry that getting on methadone maintenance treatment at Jacksonville Metro Treatment Center will be trading one addiction for another, but this is a misunderstanding. Methadone is a highly regulated and studied, FDA approved medication used to assist individuals working to overcome an addiction to heroin or other opiate drugs. When taken as directed, it is a safe way to enable patients to resume their emotional, intellectual and physical functioning without suffering any impairment. This is because rather than act as a narcotic that can be abused for its euphoric effects, methadone works as a stabilizer in the brain and body. It does not produce drowsiness or mood swings, and has been proven to reduce destructive and high-risk behaviors that have profound, unfortunate consequences. Methadone has also been proven safe for pregnant women to take, especially in comparison to the extensive damage that opiate abuse can do to a fetus. Studies show that methadone does not impair an infant’s cognitive or developmental functioning when a woman takes it during pregnancy. Extended studies show that the children of mothers who undergo methadone maintenance while pregnant experience no lasting harm from the exposure. Additionally, research has shown that methadone maintenance treatment results in greatly reduced risk of illness and death in both mother and child. Methadone does have some side effects, but these are minor and pass quickly. Patients on methadone have been shown to benefit from considerable health improvements. Patients who may have had poor nutrition, poor dental care, or prior medical conditions before undergoing methadone maintenance treatments may become more aware of the symptoms masked by their drug abuse as they stabilize on methadone. These symptoms will also improve as stabilized patients receive proper treatment for any pre-existing conditions, and work on improving their nutrition, healthcare and overall wellness habits.

Therapy

Jacksonville Metro Treatment Center provides addiction care services centered around Medication-Assisted Treatment. This approach to opiate addiction treatment combines stabilizing medication dispensing with behavioral counseling. Rather than rely on medication alone, we use it as a support while we have patients focus on counseling services. Under the professional guidance of addiction care specialists, patients at Jacksonville Metro Treatment Center can engage with individual, group, and/or family counseling. Individual therapy allows patients to work on themselves in a private, intensive format, group therapy allows them to give and receive support in a group of fellow recovering addicts who understand and relate, and family therapy allows them to work through interpersonal issues and plan for a home life that is more conducive to abstinence from substance abuse. Jacksonville Metro Treatment Center understands that counseling is key to long term recovery success. It helps patients understand the disease of addiction and how it has impacted their bodies, brains and behavior. In counseling, patients are able to determine the underlying causes of their addiction and common substance abuse triggers, and then work on these issues in ways that create improvements in all aspects of their lives. Counselors at Jacksonville Metro Treatment Center help our patients learn how to cope with life conflicts and challenges and learn new behaviors that will enable them to avoid relapse. This work requires a lot of hard work and focus, which patients are able to summon thanks to the medical support of methadone or buprenorphine maintenance, which suppresses their drug cravings and symptoms of withdrawal. Medication-Assisted Treatment provides long-lasting, positive recovery results because it approaches the disease of addiction through a combination of opiate-replacement medication and a variety of other medical, social, behavioral and psychological services. Whether patients undergo treatment with buprenorphine or methadone, they are learning to heal without having to abandon their personal or professional responsibilities during treatment. The outpatient program at Jacksonville Metro Treatment Center allows patients to continue their daily life while participating in treatment. They learn to grow and improve in recovery within their current environment, benefiting from counseling support as they discover and address changes that need to be made in their circumstances. Methadone Maintenance Treatment has been regulated and studied for over fifty years. It has been proven remarkably effective in the treatment of drug cravings and withdrawal symptoms suffered by recovering opiate addicts in a range of different environments.

Specialities

At Jacksonville Metro Treatment Center, we provide Medication-Assisted Treatment for adults 18 years old or older who have had a primary addiction to heroin or other opioid drugs for a year or longer. Prospective patients should call to make a new patient appointment, for which they should show up with a valid form of identification and a valid payment method. Payment options include cash, credit card, debit card, and some forms of insurance. Patients may wish to take an entire day off of work on the day of their initial intake appointment. While the appointment itself won’t take all day, patients are required to show up already in withdrawal. This is the only way that we can determine and start them on the appropriate opiate replacement medication at the appropriate level, to ameliorate their symptoms of withdrawal and drug cravings. The intake and initial assessment appointment will involve an assessment interview with a physician-led treatment team. During this process, patients should answer questions about themselves and their drug history as honestly as possible. Prospective patients can be reassured that their records will be kept strictly confidential, so their openness will be protected. Once the treatment team has a thorough assessment, they will be able to customize a personalized recovery plan suited to the patient’s need. After this, new patients will meet with their dedicated counselor and a doctor, along with a nurse who will dispense their initial dose of medication. During this meeting, the new patient will learn all about the program, program options, and expectations they should have for the treatment process. They will also agree to a plan for counseling services.

Induction Phase

The first few weeks of treatment at Jacksonville Metro Treatment Center are known as the induction phase. Patients are closely monitored during this period to determine how effective their current medication is at the current dosage. Adjustments may be made until the patient achieves a safe, effective level of medication, so that they are stabilized and functioning well. Throughout induction, patients frequently meet with their dedicated counselors to continue evaluating patient progress, to learn more about treatment and the nature of addiction, and to increase patient motivation and commitment to treatment. Patients will also work with their counselors to set and plan for goals to improve their lives throughout the recovery process.

Maintenance Phase

Once stabilized on the optimum dosage of medication, patients at Jacksonville Metro Treatment Center are able to function normally and remain comfortable without being impaired by the sedation or euphoria they would have experienced abusing their drug of choice. This level of medication is determined and maintained through regular monitoring and continuous patient feedback regarding withdrawal symptoms. Patients continue to regularly meet with their dedicated counselor so that they can work on healing past trauma, working through current issues, and establish additional goals for recovery and other areas of their lives. The ongoing maintenance phase allows patients to normalize in a steady state of wellbeing, so that they can make progress personally, professionally, physically, socially, and psychologically.

Staff

The compassionate and accomplished staff at Jacksonville Metro Treatment Center understand that greater lengths of treatment result in greater patient results. We develop long-term, positive relationships with our patients, who continue in treatment from one to three years. The duration of methadone maintenance depends on the individual patient, and is determined through a collaborative effort between patient and doctor.
