At Phoenix House New York, you’ll be able to get the treatment you need to recover from your substance or alcohol abuse. It’s a rehab center that offers a number of different services, including prevention, early intervention, continuing care, and support during recovery. There are nine different treatment centers to choose from throughout the New York area, including the Phoenix House Manhattan Admissions Office.

The Manhattan Admissions Office will help you get entered into treatment in the location that’s just right for you. You’ll be able to undergo a comprehensive assessment that will determine the extent of your drug use. For more serious cases where you’ve been abusing for a long time, you might be best fitted for residential treatment programs at the Hauppauge Residential Program for Men, the Lake Ronkonkoma Residential Programs at Edward D. Miller Center, the Wainscott Academy on Long Island, Springfield Gardens Mental Health Community Residence, or the Long Island City Residential Program. However, for less serious addictions that don’t completely dominate your life, you might be a better fit for Brentwood Outpatient and Community Residence, Brooklyn Phoenix Life Centers – Riverwalk, Brooklyn Community Recovery Center, or East Hampton Outpatient Services.

Whatever program you choose, you can rest easy knowing that every facility is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, which is a nationally recognized standard of excellence. What’s more, the entire Phoenix House organization has earned accredited charity status from the Better Business Bureau of New York.

Because Phoenix House New York has been around since 1967, you can have complete confidence in booking your rehab treatments here. The group was founded by six heroin addicts who were undergoing a detoxification program in a hospital. After being released, they moved into what would eventually become the Phoenix House Manhattan Admissions Office and started a community to help and encourage others suffering from addiction. After a while, they received support from psychiatrist Dr. Mitchell S. Rosenthal, who turned the house into a citywide treatment network.

You’ll be able to experience holistic care that’s focused on the whole person rather than just the addiction. Phoenix House’s mission is to offer the best-in-class services centered around evidence-based treatment and recovery. Most of all, the organization hopes to promote a greater understanding of addiction so that you, your loved ones, and even the general public can know what it’s like to suffer through and recover from this disease.

One of the nicest things about Phoenix House Manhattan and the other locations is that most major insurance carriers are accepted. This includes managed care programs and Medicaid. With that kind of flexibility, patients from all backgrounds can receive some of the best care that New York City has to offer.

Other than accepting most insurances, Phoenix House offers a number of different activities and services for its patients. Outside of counseling and therapy, each facility offers important life skill tutoring to make it easier to transition back into society. This can include anger management to help you control your temper during disagreements, vocational training to help you secure a well-paying job after rehab, and housing referrals so you’ll have a place to stay while you get back on your feet.

However, not everything at Phoenix House is serious. There are also plenty of activities to help you kick back, relax, and work on your emotional, spiritual, and physical health. Some of these include music therapy with a licensed therapist, meditation, and yoga. You can also get into the action with more active opportunities, including volleyball, basketball, and martial arts. For those who simply want to enjoy the outdoors while working up a sweat, there are plenty of fitness trails surrounding many of the Phoenix House New York facilities.

If you’re staying at one of the Phoenix House New York inpatient facilities, you’ll also have the option of getting a special dietary plan for your food allergies or restrictions. All you have to do is mention this to a staff member during your intake sessions, and arrangements will be made to accommodate your dietary needs.

Because of the wide variety of facilities you can go to after getting an assessment done at the Phoenix House Manhattan Admissions Office, there are also a wide variety of therapies used during treatment. You’ll work with a multidisciplinary team that might include social workers, psychiatrists or psychologists, clinical case managers, family therapists, substance abuse counselors, wellness specialists, vocational specialists, continuing care counselors, and other medical professionals. Regardless of the actual services you utilize, each care plan is tailored to the individual’s needs.

Many patients are treated with cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). This is one of the most popular methods of addiction counseling because it is also one of the most effective. In this method, a counselor will work with you to identify the patterns of thought that lead to undesirable behaviors like drug use. Instead of trying to directly change the behaviors, the counselor will help you develop ways to change your patterns of thought. In turn and over time, you’ll begin to naturally alter your undesirable behaviors.

Another population method of therapy is medication-assisted treatments. In this method, you’ll be given certain medications like buprenorphine to help you ease off of opiate drugs. By doing this, you’ll prevent your withdrawal symptoms because the buprenorphine will satisfy your brain’s urge for opioid receptor stimulation. Additionally, the buprenorphine will reduce your cravings and block the effects of other opioids. Many people stay on this type of therapy on a long-term basis, but many others use it as a tool to get clean for good.

You might also be involved in family or group counseling. Family counseling helps you reconnect with the loved ones that you’ve alienated during your time of addiction. They will learn how to support you during rough times, while you will learn how to better express your needs. In group counseling, you’ll share your stories and emotions with peers who have gone through the same things you have. Often, fellow people who have struggled with abuse make the best listeners.

Phoenix House Manhattan can help a number of specific groups of people, including teens, adults, women with children, veterans and active military members, and people suffering from dual diagnosis. Each of these groups can get the care that they need while feeling safe and secure.

At many of the Phoenix House New York facilities, adolescents and teenagers can get care that’s customized to them. Younger people have a different set of needs than adults; they might be more concerned about what their peers think and are much more influential. They also might not be comfortable being surrounded by people who are years older than them. Because of this, they require a different treatment setting. The Phoenix House residential programs offer high school academic programs, while the outpatient programs involve family members to provide a comprehensive and supportive environment during treatment.

Adults are the biggest demographic that use the services of Phoenix House Manhattan. They can choose from outpatient services, residential services, or detoxification and stabilization. The path to take all depends on how serious your drug addiction. Staff at Phoenix House will help you determine which kind of program is right for you.

The bond between mother and child is unbreakable, which is why it’s so important for children to stay with their mothers during treatment. This prevents children from entering the welfare system, and it also gives the mother good motivation to continue her treatment. Phoenix House even has special programs for pregnant women in need of addiction treatment.

Military members see and go through a lot on the battlefield, so it’s not inconceivable that they might turn to drugs to self-medicate away these traumatic experiences. Because of that, Phoenix House has created programs to specifically address the needs of this community.

Often, substance abuse problems and mental disorders go hand-in-hand. Whether a person begins using drugs to self-medicate away the symptoms of the mental disorder or the drugs cause a mental order to develop, both of these issues must be taken care of. Otherwise, if only the addiction is treated, the person is much more likely to begin using again once they are out of treatment. Getting dual diagnosis treatment helps to address both of these issues at the same time, improving the chances of a full and lasting recovery.

Phoenix House is led by a diverse, knowledgeable, and caring group of professionals. In particular, the executives in charge all have a medical background, so they know what patients are going through when they enter treatment. The entire organization was founded by Dr. Mitchell S. Rosenthal. Today, however, he acts as the President Emeritus so he can spend more time managing the Rosenthal Center for Addiction Studies.

The current President and Chief Executive Officer of the company is Ann Bray. Before making the transition to leadership roles, she was as a registered nurse in acute care settings. She also has a law degree from the William Mitchell College of Law and a Master of Business Administration from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul/Minneapolis.

On the clinical side of things, each and every staff member is highly experienced and trained in the field of addiction science. The team is led by Dr. Bejamin R. Nordstorm, who is a board-certified addiction psychiatrist. In the role of Senior Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer, he oversees all treatment and works to find new evidence-based methods to put into practice. He earned his Doctor of Medicine from the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth and finished his training in psychiatry and addiction psychiatry at the New York State Psychiatric Institute and Columbia University Medical Center.

The Phoenix House New York team also has its own dedicated staff to make sure things run smoothly. Dan Boylan works as the Program Director, while Denise Buckley fills the role of Director of Community Residences. Julia Floyd-Venture acts as the Vice President and Director of Mental Health and Military Services, while Shaun Willis works as the Director of Outpatient Services for Long Island. In addition, Susan Pikser is the Director of Quality Assurance for Mental Health Services, Vincent Vaglica is the Program Director, and Vincenzo Panico is the Clinical Director.

Living in New York can be tough. It is easy to find drugs and get addicted here. I started taking medications and other drugs recreationally early on and stayed that way for years. When things were at their worst I called the Phoenix House to try to find help. The person I talked to explained that I had some options to consider. These were residential treatment, outpatient treatment, or a combination of both. I could make an appointment for an evaluation and they could help me decide which was right for me.

I asked a lot of questions about their programs and they were always patient and kind. I never once felt like I was being treated like an inferior while talking to them. They even told me that they have a number of activities to get me away from the drugs and drug culture which is nice since most of my friends use too. So far they seem like the perfect place for me.

I started in their detox and stabilization program. This let me get off the drugs and through withdrawal with the minimum amount of pain and suffering. Once I was stable I transferred to their residential program where I learned a lot about myself and why I was addicted to drugs. This program had everything. I had counseling sessions, visits with the doctors, and even some things that were fun. Most of the time I was working on myself, body, mind, and even spirit. When I wasn’t participating in counseling, there were plenty of fun skill building activities going on. If it weren’t for their complete treatment approach I wouldn’t be where I am today.
