About

Ark Counseling in Plymouth, Minnesota, is an abstinence-based intensive outpatient and outpatient facility for those struggling with substance abuse and alcohol addiction. All patients who get care here must not use drugs during their treatment, as the facility does not offer any detox or withdrawal help. In order to help its patients Ark Counseling embodies five main principles in its care: research-informed practice, therapeutic alliance in the community, unconditional positive regard, positive psychology, and measurable clinical outcomes.

The staff at Ark Counseling is a diverse team of various specialties all dedicated to one thing – helping you overcome your addiction. Whether you’re struggling from an underlying medical condition, emotional instability, or chemical dependency, they can help you battle against it to achieve full sobriety. They believe that every person deserves a chance to be whoever they want to be. With their help, you can rise above your difficulties and fulfill your dreams, no matter what they are. To Ark, you are more than your problems or your diagnosis. Each person, regardless of what they are suffering from, has worth and value.

Ark has a unique philosophy when it comes to treatment, in that they believe that each person has a unique purpose in the world. Whatever the person’s behavior is, it moves them closer to where they want to go. Therefore, by changing your behaviors to more positive ones, you’ll be able to head in a more positive direction. The main values Ark strives to instill in its patients include hope, self-efficacy, belief in a higher power, integrity, gratitude, empathy, forgiveness, and altruism. With these in mind, Ark knows that each and every one of its patients can move forward in life towards a happy outcome.

Ark Counseling Plymouth MN accepts a number of different payment options. All treatment is billed according to a fee-for-service, meaning that payment is required at the time service is rendered. Luckily, many insurances cover therapy at Ark Counseling, including Blue Cross and Blue Shield of MN, Cigna, Medica, Consolidated Treatment Funds, Behavioral Health Providers, Rule 25, T.E.A.M., and UCare. Ark Counseling will work with you to determine if your treatment will be covered before you begin; all you have to do is contact them for more information.

Amenities

While Ark Counseling Plymouth MN does not have an inpatient facility, that doesn’t mean it lacks amenities. Whether you’re there for just a quick one-hour session or a full day of counseling, you’ll be sure to feel comfortable and valued while at Ark. The main way that they do this is by using positive psychology at all times. This goes far beyond simply being nice to someone. It involves changing the entire atmosphere of the facility.

Because of that, all of the décor, from the furnishing to the paint colors, was carefully selected to give off an air of peace and love. Frosted windows convey soft and warming natural light, while full-spectrum lighting adds rays of hope throughout the building. Everything in the facility is clean and state-of-the-art so that you’ll feel completely at home. As they note on their website, with the pale green and burnt orange walls, it feels more like a coffee shop than a clinic. Small round tables with cozy chairs sit around the lobby, while the group therapy areas feature large screen TVs and comfortable office chairs.

In this type of environment, Ark hopes that you’ll be able to step away from your problems, stop focusing on dysfunction, and start thinking about your strengths and virtues instead.

To make things easier during your care, Ark Counseling also has a fully functioning website that’s full of important information you’ll need. If you go online and head to their site, you can access the Client Bill of Rights, Behavioral Practices, Privacy Practices, and much more. Basically, if there’s any important form you need during care, it will be here.

When you finish your care, you’ll also benefit from Ark’s extensive treatment outcome process. After you’ve been chemically clean for at least 12 consecutive weeks, you’ll qualify for completing treatment. To make sure you were satisfied during care, they will present you with a number of statements to ensure your experience was positive and to help future patients. You’ll rank these statements on a scale of 0 to 4. Sample statements might include “I feel my treatment was very beneficial” or “I believe my emotional state has significantly improved.”

Therapy

Ark Counseling employs three main types of therapy: individual therapy, couple and family therapy, and group therapy. With individual therapy, you’ll have the ability to have a one-on-one session with the counselor of your choice. You can schedule appointments five days a week to talk about your emotional and mental health problems – even if you don’t have any chemical use issues.

In couple and family therapy, you can also schedule appointments five days of the week. In these sessions, your partner, parents, children, siblings, or other important people will come with you. Together, you’ll be able to discuss how your drug abuse has affected your relationships and work to help heal the bonds that once kept you close.

Group therapy is when you have a counseling session with random members of the community. You’ll be talking about your feelings and issues in a group of mixed sex peers. However, not everyone can join group therapy. In order to ensure the safety of the group, you have to meet certain established criteria before you are invited.

For those who are especially struggling with drug abuse, you’ll be invited to attend chemical use groups. There are two different kinds: intensive outpatient, which meets three, four, or five days a week, and outpatient, which meets only one or two days a week. To determine which group you belong in, a staff member will conduct a chemical health assessment to learn about your drug use habits. After you explain which drugs you take, how long you’ve taken them, and how much you take, they’ll have a better idea of which group to put you in.

No matter which session you join, all meetings last for three hours. You will have the choice of joining a morning group or an evening group, which is great if you are working or have to take care of kids. The morning groups meet three days a week, usually at 10 a.m., while the evening groups meet four days a week, starting at 6:30 p.m. Regardless of which group you’re in, you’ll also be required to attend one-on-one counseling as well as one session of family counseling.

There’s no set time limit for when treatment is complete. Rather, it’s when you hit certain clinical outcomes that you can officially graduate from the program. One major requirement is that you do not use any drugs while in the program. Patients are subjected to random drug testing, and if drugs are found in your system, you will be dismissed from treatment.

Specialities

Because Ark Counseling is so open to treating people with various kinds of mental and substance abuse disorders, they don’t truly specialize in any field. Rather, they diversify their care so that anyone can benefit from it. Young adults, men, and women will all receive the same treatment adapted to their individual needs.

However, Ark’s truly specialty lies in its approach. Mainly, the therapeutic alliance between the patient and their therapist is a unique concept that sets Ark Counseling apart from other facilities. By building a therapeutic alliance, you’ll be able to talk openly about your goals, feel connected, and mutually agree on the next steps you need to take in order to have a successful recovery. Additionally, you’ll have complete confidence in your therapist’s discretion; you’ll know that they’ll never judge or look down on you. Ark Counseling believes that building a strong therapeutic alliance accounts for 40 percent of a treatment’s results, making this a crucial specialty to provide.

In addition to the therapeutic alliance, Ark Counseling also works with all patients to plan for the end of treatment. This include social skills development, HIV or AIDS education, and hepatitis education. Armed with this knowledge, you’ll be ready to take charge in the world and live a much more positive and connected life. Ark would never just release you into the world without a plan to follow, so they’ll do everything in their power to help you feel prepared and ready to take action.

When I decided to stop using, I wanted to quit completely. I heard horror stories of people quitting with methadone only to become addicted to methadone. So, I called Ark Counseling. They offer a abstinence program that ends your drug use without the use of other addictive medications and for a long time opiate addict this was good news. The man on the phone explained to me that they believe in positive experience, community interaction, and outcomes you can actually see. This is a nice change over some of the other programs I spoke with. He was extremely friendly and seemed happy to help. He also answered all of my questions patiently which was probably difficult for him because I had a lot of them.

I had a real problem when I came to the Ark. I was addicted to the medicine that was supposed to get me off drugs. It was horrible to think that after everything I did, I was right back where I started. When I found out that the Ark does not use medication to treat addiction, I wanted to at least try. What I found out while I was there that it was not the drugs that were the problem, the way that I was thinking was. They taught me that my thinking was causing me to be an addiction and would transfer to anything that I was doing and when I corrected the way that I thought about my life, it corrected the addiction. At first I thought they were wrong but their method of treatment really showed me the way when other rehabs couldn’t.
