About

The city of Philadelphia has been instrumental in American history. Unfortunately, the city has a history of its own in substance abuse and mental health issues. However, Fairmount Behavioral Health System is here to help the sufferers of these issues and their families. Located in the idyllic Roxborough area northwest of downtown Philadelphia and between the Fairmount and Wissachickon parks, Fairmount behavioral health sits on a 27 acre wooded campus.

The abundant hardwood trees and natural elements contribute to the peaceful and relaxing atmosphere at the facility, allowing our patients to heal. This setting also provides the perfect backdrop for families seeking help and recovery of their own. The therapeutic powers of this natural environment cannot be matched anywhere else.

They are more than just a pretty place to visit, though. They are a licensed and accredited facility specializing in substance abuse treatment and behavioral health services. It is their mission to offer hope by providing a safe place for people to begin recovery and to develop healthy behaviors with dignity. Hope can be very difficult to find when you or a loved one is suffering the debilitating effects of substance abuse and/or mental health problems.

At Fairmount, they help you find hope by providing a number of treatment options and specialty care for people from all walks of life. They can treat children, teens, and adults and they also have a number of specialty programs for families, women, and adolescents. Simply put, they are capable of helping anyone suffering from substance abuse, mental health issues, and co-occurring mental and substance use disorders.

Fairmount may seem rural and rustic but they have a state of the art facility whose staff is up to date on all the latest treatment techniques and treatment types. They treat a variety of drug and alcohol addictions including the latest synthetics and club drugs. They do this through the formation of an individualized treatment plan and stabilization services.

Since Fairmount is isolated from many of the pressures and issues of the city and outside world making it an ideal treatment facility location. They firmly believe in a multidisciplinary approach to treatment and patient education. This simply means that they believe in using all of the tools available for treatment including a mix of psychology, psychiatry, and medical approaches. They realize that this is the absolute best way to make sure that your treatment is safe and successful. It is only in this combination of approaches that you can find the treatment approach that works best for you.

They have created a whole mind, body, and spiritual approach to drug and alcohol addiction treatment. This program uses evidence based practices and new technology to make sure that you recover completely before re-entering the community.

The overriding philosophy of Fairmount Behavioral Health Systems is recovery through individualized treatment, safe and comfortable care, with highly trained staff. They do not reject anyone on the basis of race, religion, gender, sexual preference, gender identity, or age.

The treatment approach is also different than many other facilities. At Fairmount, the master clinicians and staff psychiatrists help patients choose their own goals, collaborating with them to create a treatment plan that empowers them to drive their own recovery.

They are also very family-focused and encourage patient’s family members and loved ones to participate in the treatment process through family counseling and our Family Focus program. Theydo this because research has shown that having a great support network is essential for meaningful recovery, particularly in children and teens.

In the clinical sense, recovery means having the ability to become a healthy, stable, and productive member of society. However, they have discovered that each person has a different vision of what recovery means to them. Whether it is complete symptom remission or just the ability to remain sober, the recovery goals of each patient are our primary concern.

Regardless of what your individual recovery goals may be, the people at Fairmount are dedicated to providing a place that is safe, supportive, hopeful, and compassionate. They believe that these are the keys to recovery for you and your family. The staff will strive to ensure that you will always feel all of these benefits while you are with us.

The facilities, staff, and treatment approaches at Fairmount Behavioral Health System make them the premiere treatment facility in all of Philadelphia and surrounding regions.

Therapy

There are different types of therapy available at Fairmount. Each type of therapy is designed to aid in a different aspect of the overall treatment program. The main types of therapy are:

  • Group therapy – group therapy gives you a chance to interact with your peers on the same level in a controlled environment. Group therapy is lead by a counselor. The counselor helps guide the sessions in a productive manner. Group therapy is designed to make you feel less isolated and help you develop a solid support network of people who wish to remain sober. Some group therapy is open sharing while other sessions may contain skill building and lectures on how to deal with the different aspects of your addiction and recovery.
  • Family therapy – family therapy is specifically designed to aid in the recovery and healing of your family unit. Addiction damages the family dynamic and can seriously hurt your family members emotionally. Family therapy helps you repair some of that damage. It can also teach you how to talk to your family in a positive productive manner.
  • Individual therapy – Individual therapy is conducted on a one on one basis. You meet with a counselor and discuss the issues you are experiencing. The main goals of individual therapy are to discover the cause of your addiction, deal with the consequences, and become a more positive productive person when you re-enter the community. Individual therapy is one of the most versatile forms of therapy. It can deal with past trauma, emotional issues, mental health issues, and the feelings that you have about any other past event.
  • Relapse prevention therapy – relapse prevention can take place in either an individual or group session. The goal of relapse prevention therapy is to help you deal with any triggers you might have in your environment. Triggers are the things that cause you to crave the drugs or alcohol. They can cause a relapse. It can also teach you what to do when you feel as if you are going to relapse or resume your addictive patterns.
  • Medication therapy – during treatment, particularly during detoxification, you may receive medications such as methadone or clonidine to help you through the worst of withdrawal. This is commonly known as medication therapy or medication assisted treatment. When you are not suffering through withdrawal you an focus all of your attention on treatment and your recovery efforts.

These are not the only forms of therapy you may encounter in Fairmount Behavioral Health. They are however, the most common forms. Each of the different therapy types can be combined to make a more complete treatment individualized treatment program.

I would definitely recommend the Fairmont Behavioral Health System. It saved my life. I was able to get away from the pressures of my life and really work on the important things like how stressed I was. They taught me different techniques to help me deal with my high pressure job and life. My family was able to come out and visit me while I was in treatment. Their counselors, doctors, and staff were all very friendly and seemed to really want to help me with my recovery. With their help I am now drug free and can manage my stressful life better than before.
