About

CODA is a full service substance and alcohol addiction recovery center. Their patient base spans three counties and they serve more than 3,000 people per year. Their Tigard Recovery Center, just one portion of the CODA Inc. group, helps thousands per year recover from dangerous addictions all on its own. They offer housing, healthcare, treatment, recovery, and employment services for many of the most vulnerable populations in the northwestern part of the United States.

They have several sites and strive to match the person to a site with the most beneficial services. Initial contact with CODA is normally made over the phone. From there they do a full medical, mental, and physical evaluation to make sure that you get to the treatment center that will give you the most benefit.

One of their largest and most diversified center is the Tigard Recovery Center. This recovery center focuses on detoxification, treatment, recovery, referral, and relapse prevention services. The Tigard Recovery Center Outpatient clinic is located at 11970 Southwest Greenburg Rd. in Tigard, Oregon. It is easily accessible from Highway Pacific Highway West (99 W) and Main Street. The Tigard Recovery Center Detoxification and Men’s Residential Program are located at 10362 West McDonald Road which is easily accessible by 94 Pacific Highway / Sherwood.

They state that their mission is to treat people whose health has been effected by drugs, alcohol, or a mental illness. They offer a level of care that is centered around the patient and the patients needs. CODA is firmly against the one size fits all treatment that many other treatment centers believe in.

They provide services to help you recover from your addiction, repair your relationships, and rejoin the community. They build this recovery model from evidence based practices and supportive care designed for each individual.

The Tigard Recovery Center has a men’s residential program and outpatient services for both men and women as well as a co-ed detoxification center. The detox program is staffed with medical professionals to provide the best possible medically supportive environment.

All of the CODA centers also work closely with corrections to provide recently released addicts and those who are interested in a deferment program to help them get back on their feet.

CODA has a long history of helping addicts get back onto their feet. The agency was established in 1969. At that time it was a methadone clinic in order to help those with opiate addictions into recovery. Between 1986 and 2007 the agency grew considerably. This growth included transitional housing, withdrawal management, detoxification, and recovery centers in both Gresham and Tigard. It wasn’t until 2008 that they began to fulfill the role as an oversight agency to multiple drug and alcohol programs for counties in Washington. Now it is one of the largest drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs in three counties of Washington State.

The CODA detoxification program at Tigard Recovery is a short term program only for going through medically managed withdrawal. Most people who go through the detox program go into either an inpatient or outpatient treatment afterwards.

Therapy

The CODA Tigard Recovery Center offers a wide variety of therapy sessions while you are in their detoxification program. Some of the therapies that are available are:

  • Individual counseling – individual counseling is available for all patients in the Tigard Recovery Center. This counseling is normally a form of talk therapy. Talk therapy is the standard for addiction recovery. Although each person is different, most people find talk therapy very helpful. Individual therapy can help you deal with the consequences of your behavior, learn new ways of dealing with things like stress, deal with each individual problem as it arises, and better coping mechanisms overall.
  • Group Counseling – group counseling is another popular therapy method. Group therapy is counselor led and the group discusses different topics. The point of group therapy is to help you understand different views and recovery methods. It can also give you coping strategies and let you know that you are not alone in the problems you are facing.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy – In this method of therapy, you meet with an individual counselor to learn about how your thought patterns can impact your behavior. During this type of therapy, you learn new ways of thinking about your behaviors and coping with the pressures of life.
  • Skills Assessment and Training – during skills assessment and training you will have the opportunity to find out what your skills are and what skills you need to make a more complete recovery. In this type of therapy you learn essential skills for dealing with a variety of situations and circumstances.
  • 12 Step Facilitation Therapy – This is the beginning of 12 step therapy. In 12 step facilitation therapy there is a counselor available but it is essentially run by the patients. 12 step therapy is addicts assisting other addicts. In this type of therapy, you learn the 12 steps and how they can help you overcome your addiction.

The other aspect of the recovery center is the detoxification clinic. This clinic is for people who are in withdrawal or want to safely withdrawal from drugs or alcohol. This is also a crisis clinic for those who are in an addiction crisis and have to come down off the drugs or alcohol in a safe and secure environment.

Detoxification is the process of going through withdrawal. This process may be lengthy depending on the drug that you are on. Fortunately, there are medications and other services available at CODA, Tigard Recovery Center.

When you enter detoxification, you will meet with a doctor or a nurse practitioner who will assess your overall condition. After the initial intake, the doctor will determine what your needs are. Certain addictions like opiate addiction have medications that can stop or otherwise treat withdrawal. There are also supportive medications that doctors use to treat individual symptoms. This makes you the detoxification process a lot simpler and certainly less difficult.

During this detoxification period, you will attend regular counseling sessions, group sessions, and other helpful lectures and classes. These sessions are part of both the detoxification process and your overall addiction treatment.
