It offers inpatient, outpatient, and partial hospitalization options for substance abuse treatment. They have an innovative approach to all substance abuse problems and dual diagnosis disorders. Their proximity to the hospital provides the needed medical support to help you end your substance abuse issues while providing counseling and pain management solutions.

Founded in 1912 by Beverly Randolph Tucker, a doctor that was ahead of her time, Tucker Pavilion began as a neurological center. It started with only seven beds but quickly expanded to the 137 bed facility that it is today. Many these days know it simply as Tucker and full range psychiatric and substance abuse facility that serves children, adolescents, adults, and seniors.

The staff at Tucker Pavilion is dedicated to providing the best substance abuse and mental health services they possibly can. It is widely known as one of the most comprehensive behavioral health clinics in central Virginia. Their main concern is promoting both physical and mental health, wellness, and wellbeing.

They are closely partnered with other community organizations such as the Jason Foundation. These partnerships allow the Tucker Pavilion to make use of community services and help their clients transition back into sober drug free living. By utilizing a therapeutic approach and a community approach to therapy they can provide personalized care for many of their clients. This is particularly important when dealing with drug or alcohol abuse because of diverse clientele and a broad range of disorders.

The partnerships that they have allow them to utilize all of the tools in the community as well as their own services to help you achieve your treatment goals. Their detoxification services are all done with medical supervision and medical management for those who need it.

The Tucker Pavilion is equipped to treat most psychiatric disorders, drug or alcohol addiction, and a variety of other mental health issues. They specialize in treating dual diagnosis patients with co-occurring disorders. They offer programs with peer support, new holistic methods, and proven methods such as drug replacement therapy and electroconvulsive therapy.

They accept private insurance, private pay clients, military insurance, medicaid and medicare. They also offer some financial assistance to those who need it but this is done on a case by case basis. They also offer case managers and financial advisors to help you find ways to pay for the care that you receive.

Your journey through the Tucker Pavilion partial hospitalization program begins with a thorough assessment of your addiction and your needs. After that is a full medically supervised detoxification program to rid your body of the lasting effects of the drugs or alcohol. Don’t worry you do not have to simply quit. The Tucker Pavilion offers medications to help you through the worst of your withdrawal period. After the initial detoxification, you will move on to both individual and group counseling. Here you will learn valuable skills to help you deal with your addiction and return to the community a more productive member.

After a hospitalized detoxification, you can go to rehab. This can happen at the Tucker Pavilion as an inpatient client or in an outpatient program that will allow you to take care of your family or work while you are still in treatment. After rehab, Tucker offers a broad range of aftercare programs to help you maintain your sobriety.

Their affiliation with the Chippenham hospital gives you the opportunity to receive both medical treatment and substance abuse services at the same time. This ends the need for visits to multiple agencies to treat the health consequences of your addiction and your substance abuse issues.

They do this through any of the amenities that they have. During your stay, you will receive dietary counseling, nutritious meals, and meal choices similar to those that a complete hospital offers.

Therapy

One of the best benefits to the Tucker Pavilion is that they offer a wide range of therapy including pet therapy. Their resident therapy dogs visit clients regularly and have shown to reduce stress and calm even the most difficult stressful situations.

Other therapies that the Tucker Pavilion offers are:

  • Relaxation therapy – a skill that you can use in any situation
  • Meditation therapy – it is not enough to just go into a quiet room, meditation takes time and practice before you can use it as the valuable tool it is.
  • Pet therapy – animal therapy has shown that having animals around helps to reduce anxiety and relieve high blood pressure to a certain extent.
  • Medication therapy – they offer medications such as buprenorphine, methadone, Suboxone, vitriol, and disulfram to help you through the worst of the withdrawal and to help you avoid relapse. Each of these drugs serves a specific purpose.
  • Individual and group therapy – both individual and group therapy can help you come to terms with your addiction. Group therapy can help by allowing to hear stories similar to your own. In this way you can help others going through the same thing and they can help you by teaching you new methods of dealing with your addiction issues.

They also offer individual counseling as well as group therapy sessions. Both of these are proven techniques to help you learn about your addiction, learn to deal with the consequences, and repair the damage that your addiction has done.

Specialities

The Tucker Pavilion specializes in the treatment of psychiatric and substance abuse disorders in all age groups. They have a partial hospitalization program that lets you detoxify in a medically supervised setting. Some types of withdrawal are extremely dangerous to try on your own. These types include both withdrawal from prescription benzodiazepines and alcohol, both of which can kill you very quickly if someone who does not understand what is going on is not available. The hospitalization portion of the Tucker Pavilion is designed to make sure that you are safe during detoxification.

After the partial hospitalization, staff members reevaluate your goals and needs to come up with a complete treatment plan for your recovery. After you are done with detoxification, they will transition you into counseling and other forms of therapy. Most people only stay in inpatient treatment until their withdrawal symptoms are under control. During this portion of treatment a doctor will evaluate you for physical needs and addiction specialists and case managers help you find the services and treatment that you need to end your addiction.

Although there is no age limit to attend substance abuse services in the Tucker Pavilion. They have facilities for children, young adults, adults, and seniors. They can give you the flexible treatment plan that you will need to end your addiction.

They also offer dialectical therapy to help you with the connection between thought, the physical body, and addiction. There is trauma related counseling to help you overcome any traumas that might be contributing to your substance abuse and substance specific counseling.

Their individual counseling program is designed to help you discover the cause of your addiction, deal with the consequences, and avoid or remove any triggers that you might have. They are dedicated to making sure that you complete your recovery with as little chance of relapse as possible.

They accept private insurance, Tricare, VA insurance, self payment, Medicaid, and Medicare for those who need help paying for treatment.

The Tucker Pavilion’s proximity to a major hospital also allows doctors to cross treatment barriers. You can be treated for a physical illness, physical or emotional trauma, or other circumstances while still treating your addiction.

Through the use of inpatient detoxification and outpatient counseling, the people at Tucker Pavilion can handle just about any addiction. The on staff doctors can help to diagnose your condition, assess its severity, and create a treatment plan that changes with your ever changing needs, wants, and addiction.

Staff

Although staff members are not specifically listed, the Tucker Pavilion is staffed with licensed professionals. The nurses, doctors, and counselors are all certified and accredited by the State of Virginia. They offer many opportunities to work with all staff members depending on your level of addiction and your need for care.

I called the Chippenham Hospital Behavioral Health Unit’s Tucker Pavilion because my teenager was out of control. She came home high with track marks on her arms if she came home at all. It was a constant battle. The Behavioral Health Unit transferred me over to the Tucker Pavilion, a center just for children and adolescents. They said they would develop a personalized plan for her and make sure that she got the treatment that she needs. They even helped me with ways to talk her into getting treatment. They were polite and understanding. It was as if they knew exactly what I was going through and explained that they were specialist in treating my teens problems both drug problems and behavioral issues and could take care of her while she was in treatment.

When I got here they checked me out thoroughly, making sure they knew exactly what was wrong with me. I was an active participant in my treatment planning. Every program they suggested was on point. During the day, I was kept too busy with counseling and other activities and at night when I was at my worst the staff was friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend to anyone who was in the same situation that I was. They put me on medication that helped me through withdrawal and even provided a place to go after I was done with rehab.
